South Africa's governing party ANC publicly urges President Jacob Zuma to resign. However, the party's executive committee did not set any time limits for this.
In accordance with the party statutes, the ANC decided to "dimsiss" the president. According to the document, this is possible for the ANC with "any public representative," the party said on Twitter.

However, this contradicts the South African Constitution at least in the case of the President, according to which the President can be elected by Parliament and only dropped by non-confidence vote or impeachment.
Zuma's wishes have been forwarded to the party during the night of Tuesday, ANC General Secretary Ace Magashule said. The decision of the Executive Committee was preceded by a night session that lasted more than 13 hours.

According to ANC Secretary General Magashule Zuma should have agreed to a resignation in principle. However, he had requested a several-month reflection period. This counterproposal Zumas has been rejected by the ANC. He assumes that Zuma will talk about it on Wednesday, Magashule said at a press conference in the party headquarters in Johannesburg.

The background to the call to resign are the several corruption affairs of Zuma, the poor economic situation in South Africa and the miserable poll results of the head of state for more than a year.
