The dispute between North Korea and the US has been intensified since the beginning of the year. But according to the South, the North is ready to get into a dialogue.

North Korea is ready to talk to the US, according to the South Korean government. This was stated by North Korean General Kim Yong Chol at a meeting with South Korean President Moon Jae In on Sunday, reported by the South Korean news agency Yonhap, citing the presidential office in Seoul.

Both had met for a one-hour talk before the closing ceremony of the Olympic Winter Games in Pyeongchang. South Korea's president emphasized that dialogue between North Korea and the US must be held "at an early stage" to improve inter-Korean relations. This is also a prerequisite to solve the nuclear dispute between North Korea and the United States.

"The North Korean delegation also agreed that relations between North Korea and the US must develop along North-South relations," said a spokesperson for the presidential office. North Korea has confirmed its intention to "maintain a dialogue with the US."

Since the triumph of Donald Trump, the dispute between the US and North Korea has been intensified. Both countries provoked each other and threaten each other with military strikes. North Korea regularly conducts nuclear weapon tests to intimidate neighboring countries and the US. Trump had threatened Kim Jong-un with "complete destruction" and tweeted earlier this year: "My nuclear weapon button is much bigger and more powerful than his."

North Korea held a military parade in February, presenting a long-range missile that also threatened the US. Only late last week, the US imposed new sanctions on North Korea. However, Trump said in January that he "always believes in talks" and is willing to talk to Kim.
