Facebook's latest 'scandal' shows us again why we need decentralization now!

in news •  6 years ago  (edited)

If anyone hasn't been following the news, Facebook Inc. recently had a MASSIVE security breach that left 50 MILLION (thats right, MILLION) people exposed to online hackers. This is just another incident in what feels endless list of hacks.

This is why we NEED to decentralize the internet. These data breaches are exacerbated by the fact that many of the big internet companies use centralized data centers. These Internet Giants (Google, Facebook, Microsoft, etc) keep endless amounts of data on our browsing , social media interactions, and online lives. I recently deleted my facebook account (for other reasons ironically) and I have never been happier. Steemit is a work-in-progress but I am ever grateful that it exists to hopefully start the trend to decentralization and allow US to have control over OUR data.
