Scientists warn of a "silent killer" who lives in his house, his clothes and even in his hair (Científicos alertan de un "asesino silencioso" que vive en su casa, su ropa e incluso en su cabello)

It is no secret to anyone that smoking significantly harms the health and not only of the smoker, but that of the people around him. But if before scientists and doctors warned of the damage of tobacco and second-hand smoke (which smokers exhale), now they have gone even further, ensuring that the remains of smoke that accumulate in hair, clothing, Furniture and the interior of the car - called 'third-hand smoke' or 'tobacco dust' - are also dangerous for the body, reports the Science Alert portal.

After conducting a series of tests on mice, researchers at the University of California (USA) have revealed that third-hand smoke could cause type 2 diabetes, damage the lungs, brain and liver.

According to the study's lead author, Manuela Martins-Green, the objective of the experiment was "to determine the minimum amount of time required to cause physiological changes in the mice when they are exposed to traces of smoke."

"We found that exposure to third-hand smoke after one month resulted in liver damage, exposure for two months resulted in more molecular damage, and four to six months caused further damage. insulin after a long-term exposure, "he said.

According to the researchers, tobacco dust is a stealthy toxin, a "silent killer" that remains on surfaces for many years and withstands even the most powerful cleaning agents. It builds up over time and becomes cancer-causing chemicals that can be absorbed through the skin and through breathing, especially by children who often ingest these toxins by putting their hands in their mouths, scientists warn.!
