In 80's era in India, there was no cable TV and the only channels available were Doordarshan and DD Metro. During this period two TV serials gained big popularity they were 'Ramayana' and 'Mahabharata'. 'Ramayana' was produced by Ramanand Sagar and the main actors in this serial were Arun Govil, Sunil Lahiri, Deepika Chikhalia, Aravind Trivedi, and Dara Singh. Deepika's role of Sita was appreciated a lot and she gained a lot of popularity during that period.

Many actresses have played the role of Sita in different movies and TV serials but Deepika's role was very popular and is remembered by people even today. Apart from 'Ramayana' Deepika has acted in some movies but since many years she is away from acting. Recent news is Deepika would be acting in a movie 'Galib' the story is based on Afzal Guru's son Galib and she is playing the role Galib's mother. It is a story of effects on a terrorist's family after he is hanged.
