Man shoots daughter’s boyfriend, runs over couple before killing himself

A Texas man fatally shot his daughter’s boyfriend and ran over the couple with his truck before killing himself, police said.

Family and police identified the boyfriend as 22-year-old Omar Soto, according to the Associated Press.

Soto introduced himself to his girlfriend’s father outside an Arlington movie theatre Friday night.

Police said the dad asked him, “What’s your name?” before shooting the 22-year-old multiple times, KTVT reports.

The man then ran over the couple with his pickup, as his daughter tried helping her dying boyfriend.

Authorities later found the father inside his truck about 15 minutes away from the shooting scene, where he reportedly took his life.

Soto was pronounced dead outside the movie theatre. He was an architecture student at the University of Texas at Arlington.

His girlfriend was transported to the hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries.

Friends and family described Soto as humble, smart and full of life on a GoFundMe page created to raise money for his funeral expenses.

Authorities have not yet released the name of the suspect or his daughter.

Police are still trying to determine the father’s motives.
