Reliance Jio, which made a foray into the telecom sector with its debut, has recently made an announcement, which is not good news for Jio customers. Jio had created an uproar in the telecom sector on its debut. The company initially provided people with facilities like free internet and calling, which led to its rapid expansion in the Indian telecom sector.
Now Jio has announced that it will have to pay an interconnect user charge at the rate of 6 paise per minute to call other operators from Jio network. Jio has said that it will charge 6 paisa per minute from the customers, instead it will give the same free data. Jio has said that till TRAI does not implement zero termination charge arrangement, Jio will charge this charge. As soon as TRAI implements the system of zero termination charge, the calling will be free as before. The date of zero termination charge currently set by TRAI is 1 January 2020. Now you will have to pay a charge to call Airtel, Vodafone or other networks from Jio.
