YouTube is back to censoring and completely cutting off channels and this time it's affecting vloggers who post about the growing cannabis industry.
YouTube, who formally has been accused of censoring alt-right channels, has updated it's user agreement and how YouTube creators can monetize their content.
This is not the same company that Google purchased in 2006 for 1.65 billion dollars. This is the company whose new policies have hurt tens of thousands of content creators and ignited the rage that caused Nasim Aghdam to shoot up YouTube headquarters in April 2018.
Now, Cannabis accounts are disappearing from YouTube without a formal warning. Google has figured out that because marijuana is still labeled as a schedule 1 controlled substance, it isn't able to generate advertising for these videos through its platform. This causes the company to lose out on a significant source of revenue created by the millions of viewers.
YouTube is now deleting content and accounts from very prominent YouTube content creators. Some accounts with countless of followers are disappearing with no foreseen warning. For example, the company Leafly suddenly vanished from the platform.
Just how Nasim Aghdam complained that the company doesn't apply it's regulations straight across the board, it selects certain users while leaving content from others that are considered to be in violation of the terms of contract.
YouTube only emails users a standard copy of the terms of service after they've deleted their content or accounts. The company has yet to release a press release regarding it's latest attempts of censoring and deleting content from users, even if their users have been loyal to the brand for a long period.
Google, the company whose motto once was "Don't be evil," has since deleted that motto as well according to Digital Trends.

I hardly log on there now, haven’t posted there in years, and if I do log on I always feel like I’m wasting time and trying to validate people’s opinion on anything.

I have a "tin foil hat" "theroy" about why they are doing this but I may write about that so I won't get into it here.
Good Post.

It seems like there can be many factors to it. Just how craigslist dropped their personals sections to avoid being charged with being complicit of human trafficking. Something about marijuana and how it’s not universally accepted can have some implications to it, perhaps how so many different states have different laws regarding where you can advertise marijuana and how. What age limits can view the content and who would want their ads appearing on videos of something that may be considered illegal or taboo in their region or against their company policy.

Google is stupid. There's nowhere in the law that prohibits talking about cannabis or adding advertisement on it.

There’s state laws that are each different on where companies or users can advertise marijuana. Perhaps, googles suggested videos or trending pages could be considered a form of advertising within the platform. This would mean that they would have to follow all the different state laws in order to be considered complying.

That’s insane. I know how that feels. It's like you lose everything and all your followers. I had a killer account screen name on Twitter with thousands of followers and then Twitter shut down my account accusing me off breaking there user agreement. I filed appeal after appeal and nothing. It's really disappointing.
