Hello Steemians, the Leuser Ecosystem Area (KEL) is not only threatened by increasingly oil palm plantations, but recently there is a plan from the Aceh Government to develop a Hydroelectric Power Plant (PLTA).

Development within the Leuser Ecosystem, plans to turn 4000 hectares of forest into a water or dam area.

Protests were carried out by the community around the site of the dam construction site, because in addition it was feared that it could become a threat of disaster, the existence of dams could also damage the forest ecosystem and economic resources of the community.

The Mega project carried out by PT Trinusa Energi Indonesia and the Aceh Government will stem the Tamiang River, whose water originates in the Leuser Ecosystem and empties into the Malacca Strait.

It is estimated that 4,090 hectares of land in the forest area will be drowned for this project with details of 1,226.83 hectares of protected forest area, 2,565.44 hectares of production forest, and 297.73 hectares in other use areas.

In addition, the construction of dams and power houses alone will use at least 10 hectares of land located in protected forest areas.

And also, for the needs of the construction of the Extra High Voltage Air Line (SUTET), at least 9.34 km of land will be used in protected forest areas, plus land in production forest areas of 21.4 km and from other use areas for 14.26 km. Dah, gitu aja..
