Every year around 46 million turkeys end their life as the centerpiece for Thanksgiving dinner, but two will avoid that fate thanks to a presidential pardon.

The ceremonial pardon of a turkey is traditional, and if you can believe it, so is their hotel stay.

Trump’s two pardons not only avoid becoming dinner, but they also get a taste of the good life staying the night at the Willard Intercontinental Hotel in Washington D.C.

But, if you thought five-star accommodations for turkeys was the billionaire president’s idea, think again. The tradition has gone on for a few years, here’s the turkeys, Tater and tot enjoying their digs at the swanky hotel before an Obama pardon. The National Turkey Federation supplies the turkeys, but also provides these luxe accommodations.

After they are officially pardoned, these will go live out the rest of their days as a part of the Gobbler’s Rest exhibit at Virginia Tech. Where they will make new friends, and won’t have to wonder if one of their friends made the ultimate sacrifice for their pillows.
