At least 61 people have died after the most powerful earthquake to hit Mexico in a century struck off the southern coast.
The epicenter of the earthquake was in the Pacific Ocean, some 600 miles (1,000 kilometers) southeast of the capital and 74 miles (120 kilometers) off the coast with a magnitude 8.1.
The last strong earthquake Mexico had experienced was in 1985, a magnitude 8.0 earthquake that killed an estimated 9,500 people in and around Mexico City.
