Philippines President Duterte: Death Toll Against Drug War's Like Liam Neeson, Clint Eastwood Films

For Philippines President Rodrigo Duterte, the rising number of casualties in his administration's drug war is far from alarming. The president made this point amid growing international criticism from the international community on the spate of killings that started when he took office on June 30.

Duterte noted that films have been justifying the killing of criminals long before he took over as president.

“It is always an eye for eye at the end of the day. Who taught us? The movie of — who is that? Clint Eastwood personified it that way and most of us saw the picture,” he said, noting how authorities could not simply let drug addicts kill innocent people.

“What is the difference between Liam Neeson killing a lot of Europeans and Americans because of what happened to his daughter? That is the same thing that is happening. That is why the scriptwriter knows what happens in the minds of human beings and they write it and they make it into movies and they showed us and gave us an example and we think the movie is good and we should follow it,” Duterte added, referring to Neeson’s blockbuster “Taken” series.

Duterte then further said those films should have been blocked from screening if they do not set good examples.

“I could be an average family man. Now how about the Clint Eastwoods in the police department? If it is bad, it should have been not shown at all because it would poison the mind of the world. But since it was good and it was only rated R for adults, everything is now shaped up by the culture in the world… so what goes in the minds of Americans,” he said.

Horrifying

It's more horrifying to see pictures of innocent girls raped and dumped like trash by drug addicts in the Philippines, or parents gruesomely killed by their very own hooked kid and rugby sniffing boys roaming around the streets who'd often just mug civilians on the road and walk away as if nothing happened cause no one dares to fight them for you know not what they could actually do... which is not the scene in Manila nor anywhere anymore. There's always two sides in every story. Duterte promised this before the election, he won because the Filipinos have chosen for him and so he delivered his promise. I am not pro killing and I never shall be - but if I were one of those police on duty and we're trying to make a drug lord or a pusher or a dealer turn himself over to us but he fired instead, would you not fire back - knowing you would leave your family one possible bread winner - all because you choose to die and take the bullet of a drug addict or pusher or dealer or drug lord that destroys human lives and creates a drug hooked future? I doubt it. The drug problem in the Philippines is way over the top - there's more to what is written here - our President's reputation is not flawless but the majority of the Filipinos are so far happy that he is taking action not only with this one problem but on other promises he made for the educational system in the Phils. and many other things. There's this Philippine illuminatis that can't make him turn around their palms who are masters at destroying one's credibility and this is not the first time this has happened.

I'm just saying it's horrifying in general. No easy answer.

If elected president, I will legalize all drugs, because my business is business and business is good!
