Hi steemians ..
In 2016, the President of the Republic of Indonesia Joko Widodo issued PP No. 57 of 2016 concerning Protection and Management of Peat as a revision of Government Regulation No. 71 of 2014.

This regulation is used to strengthen the affirmation of the prohibition for anyone, both the public and the company, to open new land until the zoning of protected functions and cultivation functions in the area of the peat ecosystem is established.

This rule is expected to be read as an "embodiment" to restore peat and restore the hydrological function of peat, and aim to reduce and stop future fires.

Secretary General of the Ministry of Environment and Forestry (KLHK) Bambang Hendroyono revealed some affirmations of the prohibitions, including the prohibition on making drainage channels which resulted in peat becoming dry, burning peat land and / or neglecting burning and / or other activities that resulting in exceeding the standard criteria for damage to peat ecosystems.

In addition to the new land clearing clause, there are also several important articles included in the PP 57/2016, namely the scale of the map of Peat Hydrological Units (KHG). In this regulation, the map scale refers to the direction of the Geospatial Information Agency (BIG), where a KHG map will be made with a scale of 1: 250,000 to 1: 50,000.

KLHK Director General of Pollution and Environmental Damage Control Karliansyah added, regarding the limit of peat water surface which is the damage criterion, in PP 71/2014 previously the absolute minimum peat water level was set at 0.4 meters from the surface.

Whereas in PP 57/2016, the limit of 0.4 meters is still maintained, except that the arrangement is arranged so that it is more applicable. Thanks for reading..
