The COVID-19 toll in West Bengal rose to 8,121 on Tuesday after 49 people succumbed to the disease, the health department said in a bulletin here. The tally mounted to 4,63,463 after 3,545 new cases of infection were reported from different parts of the state, it said.

The death toll from COVID-19 mounted to 7,615 in Uttar Pradesh with 33 more fatalities, while the infection count climbed to 5,31,050 on Tuesday after the detection of 2,274 new cases in the past 24 hours, according to an official statement. Of the new deaths linked to the pandemic, state capital Lucknow, Kanpur and Meerut recorded five each, followed by three fatalities each in Gautam Buddh Nagar; two each in Etawah, Farrukhabad and Baghpat.

Coronavirus News LIVE Updates: J-K records 431 new COVID-19 cases, 10 more die

Jammu and Kashmir recorded 431 fresh cases of the novel coronavirus on Tuesday, bringing the tally to 1,07,330 while 10 more deaths in the last 24 hours raised the toll to 1,651, officials said. The Jammu division accounted for 253 of the fresh cases, while the Kashmir division recorded 178 new infections, they said. The officials said Jammu district recorded a maximum of 122 COVID-19 cases, followed by 84 in Srinagar. There are 5,357 active cases of the novel coronavirus in the Union Territory, while 1,00,322 patients have recovered so far, the officials said. Four of the new deaths due to the coronavirus were from Jammu and six from the Kashmir region.

Italy will get 16 million shots of the potential COVID-19 vaccine developed by British drugmaker AstraZeneca in the first months of 2021 under a supply deal agreed at a European Union level, a government source said. This initial supply will immunize 8 million people as the AstraZeneca vaccine will require an initial shot followed by a booster, the source told Reuters on Tuesday. "Italy will receive 4 million shots as early as January and it will receive a further 12 million within the following three months", the source said, cautioning that this timing was subject to approval of the AstraZeneca and University of Oxford developed vaccine by the European Medicine Authority.

Coronavirus News LIVE Updates: Maharashtra reports 5,439 new COVID-19 cases, 30 fatalities

Maharashtra on Tuesday reported 5,439 fresh COVID-19 cases, taking the count of infections to 17,89,800, state health department said. With 30 more people succumbing to the infection, the overall toll rose to 46,683. A total of 4,086 patients were discharged in the day after treatment, taking the tally of recoveries in the state to 16,58,879. The number of active patients now stands at 83,221. Mumbai city reported 939 new coronavirus positive cases, taking its cumulative caseload to 2,77,453 while death toll rose to 10,708 with 19 people succumbing to the infection. The state has so far conducted 1,03,66,579 tests.

Coronavirus News LIVE Updates: Gujarat's COVID-19 tally crosses 2-lakh mark with 1,510 cases

Gujarat's COVID-19 tally crossed the 2-lakh mark and rose to 2,00,409 with the addition of 1,510 new cases on Tuesday, the state health department said. This is the second time in three days that the state has reported over 1,500 new cases in a day. Also, 1,510 is the second highest daily count recorded since the outbreak of the viral infection in March. Gujarat also reported the death of 16 more COVID-19 patients, taking the number of fatalities to 3,892, the department said in a release. At the same time, 1,286 patients were discharged from various hospitals, pushing the number of recovered cases in the state to 1,82,473, it said.

The Maharashtra government's decision to make coronavirus negative report mandatory for those entering the state from four certain states is expected to impact the domestic travel demand further, ratings agency Icra said on Tuesday. The varying policies of the states on capacity deployment by the airlines coupled with quarantine norms, among others, have already hit the domestic passenger traffic flow in the country, Icra said in a statement to PTI. Despite month-on-month recovery in passenger volume since the reopening of the domestic scheduled flights in a graded manner from May 25 after a hiatus of two months, the air passenger traffic has seen a significant fall on a year-on-year basis. Domestic travel demand declined 58 per cent to 52 lakh passengers in October this year compared to 123 lakh passengers in the same month of last year, Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) data for October showed.

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy on Tuesday directed officials of the Medical and Health Department to prepare an action plan on the preparedness for distribution of COVID-19 vaccine as and when it becomes available. Addressing a meeting with Principal Secretary (Health) Anil Kumar Singhal, Commissioner (Health) Katamaneni Bhaskar and other officials, after a videoconference with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Chief Minister asked them to secure all relevant information on the vaccine from the companies concerned and study it. "Focus on the steps to be taken for distribution of the COVID-19 vaccine and the infrastructure required to keep the vaccine in frozen condition. Moving the vaccine to remote places by maintaining requisite temperature is also critical," a CMO release quoted the Chief Minister as telling the officials.
