A group of rats (17) includes 11 males and 6 females were tested in the University of Richmond in Virginia to drive the miniature cars to collect the food. While rats have ability that they can find their way mazes, press bars and recognize objects.
Kelly Lambert is a psychology professor at the University. She and her team told the scientist they wanted to know whether rats could learn complex tasks like how to operate a moving vehicle.
For the experiment rats were given which were made out of plastic food containers with aluminum floor and steering wheel made out of three copper bars. When the rats stood on the aluminum floor and touched their paws to the copper bars, an electrical circuit was completed, moving the car. To take this experiment further more Kelly Lambert and her team compare the result between rat driven cars and remote controlled cars in which passengers were animals.
