An important study that was conducted at the University of Tel Aviv, which is located in Israel, gave great information and also reveals that the hyperbaric oxygen treatments can improve the symptoms suffered by Alzheimer's patients.
Professor Uri Ashery, of the Sagol School of Neuroscience and Faculty of Life of TAU, leader of the study, says that hyperbaric oxygen therapy can improve the pathology of this disease and correct the behavioral deficits associated with Alzheimer's.
What is hyperbaric oxygen therapy?
It is a treatment in which a special chamber is used to increase the amount of oxygen in the blood, the pressure of the air inside it is approximately two and a half times greater than that of the normal atmospheric pressure, so it helps the blood transport much more oxygen to the organs and tissues of the body.
A treatment with good possibilities
The added oxygen stimulates the release of growth factors and stem cells, which promote healing. The TAU scientists used a mouse model with Alzheimer's disease and discovered that after 14 days of treatment with hyperbaric oxygen, the pathology and neuroinflammation were reduced by 40%.
The researchers found that, although more research is needed, the treatment is a safe and well tolerated by a large population, so it could be a viable option for multiple mental illnesses.
