RUSSIA kicked off the Confederations Cup by beating New Zealand in a game over-shadowed by referee Wilmar Roldan failing to make use of the video review system.
New Zealand keeper Stegan Marinovic clearly brought down Russian striker Dmitry Poloz during the first half but rather than review it the Columbian official waved play on.
The Kiwis also thought they should have had a spot kick in the second half when the ball hit Aleksandr Erokhin’s chest … but the referee once again did not even get the incident reviewed.
It was almost as though Roldan forgot that he could use the review system.
