Summary

Almost 1/3 of the world's populaition has overweight or suffers from obesity. That is twice as many people as in 1980.This news was published by the New England Journal of Medicine.

About 2.2 Bilion grown ups and children are having health issues because they have overweight. among them 600 million grown ups and 108 million children have a BMI about 30 (which means that they are seriously overweight)

Bad eating habits and low physical activity are according to the experst the main causes of the growing number of people with dangerous overweight.

Urbanization and economic development have also resulted in an increase in obesity in poor countries, as a proportion of the population has been switched from a traditional vegetable diet to cheap, processed foods with a lot of fat, sugar and salt.

The authors, who examined the population of 165 countries between 1980 and 2015, are deeply concerned about global health. The researchers say that in 2015 about 4 million people died as a direct consequence of their obesity, 28 percent more than in 1990.
