A Chittagong court has sentenced six people to death for killing an expatriate parrot. District and Sessions Judge Farzana Akhtar pronounced the verdict on Monday (March 8th) afternoon.
On January 1, 2003, expatriate Nesar Ahmed Prakash alias Bailya Tota was strangled to death in Rangamatia area of Fatikchhari. His wife Morsheda Akhter filed a case with Fatikchhari police station.
Police later arrested a man named Shaheen. After a long hearing, the judge sentenced 6 people including Shaheen to death. Among the convicts, 6 are fugitives.
The convicted accused are- Shaheen, Babul, Lada Nasir, Nurul Islam, Md. Jobayer, Didar, Abu Bakkar flute, Ismail and Md. Jangu. All of them except Shaheen are fugitives. However, he has been released from the case as one of them died.

According to the statement of case, Nesar Ahmed was an expatriate in Dubai. He returned to the country in 2003 after serving a prison sentence due to visa complications. He used to get five thousand rupees from Ezahar Miah of the same village. He did not get the money back more than once. He had previous animosity with the area's terrorist Lada Nasir and his associates. Lada Nasir's ploy to save the money by creating an opportunity for revenge. Nesar believes his words. On November 1, 2003, at around 5 pm, the accused called Neshar from his house and took him away, claiming to have recovered money from Ezahar. At around 8.30 am the next day, Neshar's wife Morsheda got the news from the locals and found her husband's bloody body on the road at the foot of a hill in Dakshin Rangamatia village. Later the police went and recovered the body.
While investigating the case, the police filed a chargesheet against 10 people in the court on May 14, 2004. After the charges were framed, the prosecution took 10 witnesses in court. A man named 'Lada Nasir' died during the trial. He was later acquitted.
