A New Dolphin arrives...

Well... I guess the time has finally arrived to write my Dolphin announcement post! After watching #newsteem take hold and settle down a bit... I'm more optimistic about the future... although, the distribution of rewards still has problems... and there are still structural problems to be sorted... the large changes brought about are generally good (or at least less bad than the status quo!).

Chief among these changes is the addition to the development fund which is a great way to reward developers for their work on making the ecosystem work! After all, we know full well that relying on community good will and donations doesn't really work... how many accounts would actually contribute?... or would most sit in the background and just reap the benefits?

Anyway, with the new curation rewards... I'm seeing a better response to more involved posts that I write... of course, I personally get a smaller share of the total reward... but I don't think I would ever have gotten large votes without the change in account behaviours... that said, it is a little bit sad that economic incentives must be the thing that encourages people in general to do the communal "right" thing... but I am a bit of a pragmatist in this respect, I don't expect that people will generally do the communally right thing, and will just look after themselves first (that isn't a moral judgement... it just is the way we are...).... and I am no hypocrite... I would do the same (to an extent... we all do it to differing amounts...).

Well, my time on STEEM here has been interesting... many communities with which I've had contact with, and many accounts that I've had contact with... with some still sticking around, and others leaving. I think for me, I'm still here... because this is a convenient place for me to practice my writing in a semi-anonymous setting... I feel free to write about stuff, and don't fear so much judgement (although, I'm still not keen to put too much professional work here.. aka, music!). Before STEEM, I never really had written very much since school (not university... high school!)... and I'm finding that I quite enjoy writing... just blathering on about things that I enjoy and sometimes about things that I just want to get off my chest!

So, it is partly with optimism (as much as any other new crypto network...) and a thankfulness for the writing outlet... that I'm sending a small batch (750 STEEM) of STEEM from Binance to boost my account to Dolphin level. I was going to be a couple of months away from achieving it through writing... but I thought it would be nice to just boost myself to the symbolic level. It is only symbolic after all... there is no sudden step-wise change in anything!

So... I continue to quietly plug away (along with my @classical-radio curation account) to just write and not focus too heavily on rewards... after all, I'm not in the position of requiring the rewards to live off... so STEEM is more an enjoyable way to just write and have an outlet for my thoughts...

Coin Tracking

Looking for a quick and easy way to keep track of your cryptocurrencies? Coin Tracking offers a free service that includes manual tracking or automatic tracking via APIs to exchanges, allowing you to easily track and declare your cryptocurrencies for taxation reports. Coin Tracking can easily prepare tax information sheets that are catered to each countries individual taxation requirements (capital gains, asset taxation, FIFO). Best to declare legally and not be caught out when your crypto moons and you are faced with an unexpected taxation bill (unless you are hyper secure and never attach any crypto with traceable personal information, good luck with that!).

Keep Your Crypto Holdings Safe with Ledger

Ledger is one of the leading providers of hardware wallets with the Ledger Nano S being one of the most popular choices for protecting your crypto currencies. Leaving your holdings on a crypto exchange means that you don’t actually own the digital assets, instead you are given an IOU that may or may not be honoured when you call upon it. Software and web based wallets have their weakness in your own personal online security, with your private keys being vulnerable in transit or whilst being stored upon your computer. Paper wallets are incredibly tiresome and still vulnerable to digital attacks (in transit) and are also open to real world attacks (such as theft/photography).

Supporting a wide range of top tokens and coins, the Ledger hardware wallet ensures that your private keys are secure and not exposed to either real world or digital actors. Finding a happy medium of security and usability, Ledger is the leading company in providing safe and secure access to your tokenised future!

Congratulation on the new hood. I am almost halfway there, maybe by end of the year I will be halfway, and make it to dolphinhood in 2020 December, we will see how and where the train goes.

Thanks... it's nice to have reached it... not so long ago, it seemed so far away! Best of luck with your journey as well, I think we started in similar times?

Nice to see the middle class growing!

Yep... slowly the balance shifts!

Thank you! It's symbolic, but it still feels nice!

I have been considering putting back the crypto that I took out of Steem at the start of the year. It's more of a reflection on the crypto market as a whole as opposed to steem itself that i find it hard to convince myself to lock everything up for 13 weeks. If the power down period was reduced, even to maybe 4 weeks, id buy back in in quite a big way. I do believe that #newsteem will improve steem a lot, but will the price increase as a result? There's every indication that practical use cases have no effect on price in the crypto market yet, other than in the top few coins (and half of them have very dubious use cases).

The lock up period is long... but I'm not sure about shortening it... there was a post that I had written about the exchanges taking advantage and voting themselves to the top of EOS block producers... the long power down time does protect us in a way from this, as the exchanges can't respond to large calls on their liquidity (the low price helps too... )... however, this could be circumvented with Lending Interest on Lockups...

LINK seems to have a solid use case as a oracle provider... I would have thought that cross chain things like ATOM would have had a better reception though.

Congratulations! This is inspiring - partly because it makes me realise that I too could be a Dolphin if I powered up my Steem (or bought a bit more). I like to keep some of it liquid, because if the price suddenly jumped and I wanted to sell some Steem, I wouldn't want to have to wait several weeks, by which time the price might have fallen again.
In fact, a few months ago I had a cashflow crisis and needed some money. I sold my liquid Steem, and then bought it back later at a cheaper price.
On the other hand, being a Dolphin gives you more voting power and you can earn bigger curation rewards. This is what I love about Steem. There are so many different ways to make your investment work for you. Much more fun than a savings account.

At the moment, it is relatively easier to power up to Dolphin with a small injection of fiat. I do try to have a gradual power down and transfer to exchange over time... that way I can keep all the eggs out of the STEEM basket... just in case, but as always diversification is a wiser choice than betting it all in one place.

Always admire your "whole picture" mindset and efforts.

Thanks... there is no other picture!

Congratulations on becoming a dolphin.
I am tempted these days to log into my Binance and get myself more Steem. People are selling it so cheaply these days, it's hard not to be temped.

Yeah... but it is always still wise to keep a diverse portfolio... just in case. But I know what you mean...

hey @bengy congratulations.. i'm still struggle with a few cents per post ;)

Thanks... it is still a struggle... but just writing and not thinking about that as the main point is really the key. Also, sometimes I think I should be getting more... but then I see some of the really really good work that is out there! I realise that some people are definitely overpaid but we shouldn't be comparing ourselves against that...

Congratulations 👏👏👏🐬 you have worked so hard to achieve this.

Slogging away quietly... Thanks!

Congrats man, hard work always pays off 😊

Thanks... it's slow going.. but I couldn't resist a last stage boost!

Welcome to the dolphin club ;)
Always good to see more and more minnows upgrading the dolphin status to grow a strong middle class for the future of Steem.

Thanks... it is slow going, but the platform will evolve to include a better distribution of stake. After all, it is the only way that it will survive!

The EIP has really been a boost for better distribution, we are heading to a better direction than in bid bot era.

Yes and you make a great one Congrats John I hope I will enter soon

Thanks! I'm sure you are coming on pretty fast!

Congrats. Always great to see a new friendly dolphin in the Steem Ocean.

Friendly.... yes....

Welcome to the Steem 'pod'. Always good to see people showing confidence in the platform by powering up. It is relatively cheap to do so now. I have bought some too recently as I am striving to get to orca eventually. We have a good core of dolphins now who help spread the votes out.

Onwards and upwards!

Wow... orca seems so far away at the moment... but on the other hand, it seems like only just yesterday when I was happy to be passing 500SP!

Super nice dude!! Congrats on Dolphinhood and welcome to the club!

Thanks! There are some familiar names... that was a bit unexpected! I don't make a habit of looking at wallets!

1% of the EL payouts made this account a dolphin!

Nice one dude :D

I realise that I have no idea what an "EL" is! But now I want to be one!
