Myself and a friend (I'm the one in glasses)

When I stumbled on the New Steemit Writing Challenge! by @whitewarlike, I had to think long and hard. For the contest, he asked a simple question: "How would you like to be remembered?"

That’s a very tough question considering how I’ve been living my life. I’ve always been carefree with my life; doing the things that interested me and (sometimes) avoiding the things that don’t. I guess that’s a good place to start.

My Carefree Nature

It is funny that I want to be remembered for my carefree nature considering that it had put me in so many problems and deprived me of many opportunities. The truth is that I have come to accept that as a part of my essence and I will like to be remembered for it.

My carefree nature stems from the fact that I believe life is just one grand joke. There are so many things that just happen and you have no power over it. Life is just like a play and everyone has their scripts. You can improvise a few lines but that’s just about the extent of it.

You can certainly affect the way you live your life to a degree but you can’t decide how other people live their lives or the cards you are dealt in life. All of these surprises and uncertainties can cause a lot of worrying and anxiousness. You could put in so much hope and effort and get more than your expectation, just about it or nothing at all.

My carefree nature helps me to handle life surprises and difficulties. Because I try not to worry too much, I find myself free to enjoy life as much as I can. I find it easy to laugh at my mistakes and sympathise with the weaknesses of others. It also helps with my creativity.

My Creativity

I think I am a creative person. I write a lot of short stories, poems and even manage to churn out articles on an irregular basis. However, my ground for being creativity lies in something else. It is in my ‘ability’ to think outside the box and imagine things in a different way. What I am saying is that I think I am creative because I find it easier to always think of another reality or an alternative narrative.

I guess it’s the reason why I have always been a patron of the weird and the unusual. To some degree, being normal bores me. As much as I can, I can to infuse newness into what I do. I am not a very imaginative person so I tweak a lot. What I do is take a bit of this and a bit from that and try to create something new.

My creativity helps me get out of problems caused by my carefree nature. I am very fond of forgetting deadlines until it is almost late. Then in those brief moments, I often have the ‘luck’ of creating awesomeness. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t. But every time I pull off a stunt like that, I have my quest for learning to thank.

My Quest For Learning

Every day I am reminded by the universe of how little I know of this world and of the endless creatures that live in it. Right now, I am a bit selfish and focus mainly on the humans, although I occasionally learn about cats, dogs and horses while learning about other people.

My quest for learning, I believe, is a product of my love for reading. I enjoy reading so much my friends often complain. If you see me with my mobile phone, you are more likely to see me reading something or creating something based on what I read.

I particularly like to learn about other people’s desires and how they achieved or plan to achieve them. I say desires and not dreams for a reason. People often have to come up with dreams, create elaborate plans and all. Sometimes it feels all too motivated, if you understand what I mean.

Desires on the other hand are always there. We can either choose to suppress or express them. In fact, it is often these desires that begat the high and lofty dreams. These little desires, some of which often go unnoticed are what makes or breaks us. And I do all of this because I want to be able to help others.

Helping Others

If I am going to be remembered at all, I want it to be that I have always been carefree, thereby making me tolerance of other people. I don’t take life too seriously so I find it easy to sympathise with others rather than upbraid them for falling short of some standard. (Don’t get me wrong. I very much believe in principles and values. I just don’t expect everyone to be subscribe to them; and even if they do, to always abide by them perfectly.)

I also try to help people create and implement ideas using my creativity. Like I said earlier, I don’t have that much of an imagination. But I can help gather people ideas and help them create something awesome. I’ve help friends plan events, write creative pieces and even find guidance in time of confusion. But I do all of these by connecting with their worlds and inner desires. I do not create anything new; I only help them see what already is.

That is why I try to learn as much as I can. I am always curious, always looking for the alternative narrative. I enjoy giving people the benefit of the doubt. I enjoy reading stories, watching historical movies and discovering new cultures and ideas through reading. Best of all, I enjoy learning about what move people to act, their desires and how they achieve them.

I guess at the end of the day, I want to be remembered as someone who had a relaxed view of the world, explored as much as he can and created as much happiness as he could. I am far from getting there yet. I am very reserved and still spend more time reading than interacting. But that is how I want to be remembered and I am working towards that end in mind.

Thanks for reading.

I love the writeup, keep it up. The best way to be remembered by people is to be remembered for doing good. You are not suppose to live your life to please anyone but there are ways you can do it that people will surely appreciate your good deeds toward them and at the end they will surely remember or praise you for the good works you have done.

Thank a lot sir.

Your comment is very encouraging.

Like my brother will always tell me, we brought nothing into this world. We are just stewards
