There was something strange in the news yesterday. In the news of a media, more or less respected by me.
This was a report about a little girl in the capital of Bulgaria, who is walking in the city center, led by the hand of her father and handing out Christmas cards, along with money (from her personal savings) to people.. to certain people.
That's great, I thought. There are so many poor and needy people in Sofia and in the whole country. And the saddest sight is the elderly people selling bouquets of flowers, walnuts or apples from their garden on the streets so that they can buy a loaf of bread later. Not to mention that they have no money for heating in the winter.
About half of the pensioners in Bulgaria live below the poverty line, which is (note) 185 euros. And these are people who have spent their whole lives in a fight and hard work.
Then governments change, political regimes fail, and their money disappears into someone else's pocket.
But anyway. Now there is a child who walks the streets and distributes money, photographed by journalists ....
But what does this child do? She stops in front of the bench where a well-dressed old woman is sitting, greets her and hands her the card.
The father explains that the girl herself chooses who to give her money to.
Then they stop in front of another bench, where two other well-dressed ladies are sitting. She hands them cards. The cameraman is shooting.
Honestly, I didn't see any point in this reportage. The girl was obviously too young to decide who to give her money to.
Or actually, it didn't really matter. All that mattered was to show them on the evening news.
And for me, this is a kind of mockery of the people who really need money. And they are really many.
