Happy New Year but it really just feels meh

2019 has finally come to an end and I can already imagine @mistakili preparing the "I haven't seen you all year" wisecracks that his other dorky friends find funny every year. While it must be said that I am happy about living this long, considering 27 is the new 70, I generally don't feel any different.

New years resolutions are common this period and then there are people like us who whinge about people making new year resolutions. People like me are always on hand to remind you of the fact that you won't keep those resolutions, so why not just try to be a better person instead.

The past year has had its moments and for most of them, I'm grateful. I finally got a girlfriend and contrary to @trumpman's opinion, I didn't hypnotize her or have to kidnap her family. I bagged me a fine woman who loves me for me and always finds ways to show me. So, yeah, I found love in 2019 but it wasn't like 2019 was my wingman or anything. It's just a coincidence; like the one time your uncle walked in on you while you were streaming porn, it literally could have been anybody else.

The truth is that January 1st of 2020 is just another day in the calendar and from what I've heard, Chinese people don't even celebrate the new year until a couple of months. All I'm saying is that getting all worked up and excited over a day in a calendar year is irrelevant because it is just a construct. It's that systematic shit that's ingrained in us to believe something is special simply because everybody says it is that fusses the issue.

If you were an asshole on the 31st of December 2019, you're still an asshole now. A couple of hours will not wash away that fact, nor will making those silly resolutions I hate so much. I notice people expecting big things based on thin air in 2020 but the hard fact is that if you don't get off your ass and do something, 2020 will basically be an extension of the shitty side of 2019.

I'm spending this season at my uncle's and they're super Christians. In Nigeria and most parts of the world, there's a tradition where people stay up all night to usher in the new year and we're going to be doing ours in the presence of Jesus, as against doing it in the presence of Johnnie Walker or Mr. Vodka, like I'm used to. So yeah, you guessed it right, I'm miserable. Oh well, it's 2020. So enjoy the fireworks and "celebration", then go back to being in debt tomorrow. Happy New year!

Glad we share the same thoughts...lool...Nigerian Christianity will always beat my understanding....here I thought Jesus is omnipresent. Anyway...I did mine with my Jesus and a blunt and slept off before 12....i was already half drunk an hour before....
