My aunt pointed out that חי (Chai) in Hebrew symbolizes both life and the number 18. I'm not religious in any way, but I'm proud of being Jewish and I'll take all the positive omens I can get. My life is going to change in many significant ways this year. In October I'll be getting married to my soulmate. It's a term that gets overused I think. There's 3 billion members of the opposite sex and proper orientation out there, it's statistically unlikely that you will find the best person out there for you. Yet somehow I did. I've been in a lot of long term relationships and talked a lot about relationships with my friends. I have never seen or experienced one that was as effortlessly loving as the one I'm currently in. We're both passionate about the same things, we both love going on new adventures, and we both are experienced enough to know how to be supportive partners. At times we're embarrassed about how awesome our relationship is when we talk to other people who are still dating or in less than perfect relationships, but we also hope that having the sort of romance you only see in movies shows other people what is possible when you hold out for a person who allows you to be authentic and is most of all a partner to you in your life.
But before all that, there are a lot of other reasons why 2018 is going to be the best year so far. It's already started fantastically. The celebration started early at the Get Real show on Friday. Just an epic set-up at the Brooklyn Hanger to bounce around to some amazing tech-house:
Saturday was a rest day and time to prep for the marathon that would be our NYE. Slept a whole bunch, cleaned up the house to start 2018 with an un-fucked house. Also made time to try out the new butcher that open down the street and made a fantastic rib-eye steak with a bourbon pan sauce, parmesan roasted green-beans, and rosemary roasted potatoes. Somehow forgot that my cast iron skillet is 500 degrees everywhere and grabbed the handle, but miraclously managed to come out of that experience with no blisters! Ending 2017 on a high note! Then to stay running good, I found a lucky penny on the way out on NYE.
At the party we were at we had a fortune teller give us a fortune based on the J of hearts (both of our names start with J). We also had some fun with a fantastic photo booth that was set up at the party being run by some professional photographers.
We had a great time partying the rest of the night. There were time machines, ping pong ball ambushes, green screens, and epic music. We brought our night of debauchery to a somewhat reasonable close around 3AM and rode the train home with some friends. That would generally be a relatively early night for us, but like I said NYE is a marathon and we had plans for the Bubbles and Bass New Years party. After a 5 hour nap we're back up and ready to brave the cold again (that was the one negative this year, it was frigid outside the whole time). We get there at 11:30, just in time for the countdown at noon, and it's actually pleasantly less crowded than it's been the last few years. The party goes from 5am-6pm and noon is usually the cross-over for people who stayed out all night and the second shift of people like us who took a nap and rallied. Seems like plenty of people didn't want to put up with more of the cold this year. But it's totally worth it. It's basically everyone coming together from the various burner parties around the city to meet in one spot to celebrate. It's incredible to see so many still in costume and dancing 18 hours later. I've gone the last three years and at this point we actually don't even care what happens the night before, this is party that gets priority for new years. We're a little sad that we probably won't make it next year, but we'll be on our honeymoon so it's not like we can complain too much =).
It's great to start the year on such a high note. We're going to spend most of January recovering from all the amazing things we did in December and looking to work on some of my goals for this year. I want to practice DJing more so that I actually get good enough to perform. We need to start living a little more frugally to start having for the wedding. Sometimes you need to just need to pass on the little things so you can do the big things later. Plus it's easy to take a break when the rest of the year looks so epic!
Amazing things upcoming:
January - Loveburn
March - World of Drum and Bass
June - Lakes of Fire and PEX
July - Hydrotechnics
August - Birthdays and probably bachelor parties
October - Wedding
Novemeber - Dems take back the house (Hopefully!)
December - Honeymoon
And that's just the stuff that is already for sure on the agenda, there will be many more adventures that come up! I'm really looking forward to meeting some goals this year, hitting a 1000 pound powerlifting total, recording some DJ mixes, maybe finally learning to flow staff. 2018 is shaping up to be incredible and I hope it will be for everyone else as well. Be sure to follow me if you want to stay in the loop on this epic journey, now hit me with those laser beams!
