Some New Year Celebration in Da Nang

At least that is what I am presuming this was all about when it went down on Lunar New Years Eve. I was just on one of the many walking streets and all of a sudden a show broke out complete with drums and very talented people in costumes. I had seen stuff like this before on TV but never in person and it was kind of fun to be a part of it.

Those costumes are actually 2 guys inside of the same suit and the one in the back will put the one in the front on his shoulders in order to make the Tiger stand up. It's a feat of dexterity that I really admire, that's for sure.

The costumed performers came up to the top level where we all were in order to continue the show for the people on the street including mouth held fireworks that was pretty damn impressive. It got a bit crowded up there for a minute and while I have no idea what this particular guy's involvement in the process is, I like him!

It just wouldn't feel like Asia if they didn't do something cutesy as well. This mascot was friendly and waving at everyone especially the kids. Some of the kids found him terrifying. I gave him a high 5.

Again, i'm not really sure about the symbolism with the dragon but the group of people that were controlling it must have practiced this for a very long time because if they made just one bad move it would have resulted in the entire thing getting tangled up. They made no mistakes and once again, the creature spouted out fireworks out of its mouth at the end.

I don't know who pays for this, I would imagine the bar and restaurant that we were in. I also don't understand any of the symbolism but you know what, it doesn't really matter. It was entertaining and it was free. So I'm for it!
