I've come across thousands of greetings and quotes through my timeline this New Year's Eve. Despite the busy line, text messages of positive thoughts, gratitude and excitement made it's way to my mobile phone. Families, Neighbors and Friends exclaiming with such bliss "Happy New Year!", and then fireworks painted the midnight sky.
What an awe-filled moment. Celebrating life and a brand new year. Feels like everyone is being reborn in this annual occasion, cheering for the world's two thousand and eighteenth birthday. Smiles are even freely displayed on strangers faces, and everyone making noise as a way of rejoicing.
However, in the middle of this festive occasion there was a sudden pause. I thought of nothing but cross-examining why do we do this each year.
Why do we stay up late or wake up in the middle of the night and rejoice as the clocks strikes twelve? Why do we rush and cook and invite people to come celebrate with us? or even lit sky-rocketing-fireworks? Why do we shout and greet and stretch our necks just to get a good view with what's being displayed upon the horizon?
Such inquisitiveness took over.
And, despite all the answers I can reason myself with. All the response I could possibly think of to cater my curiosity doesn't seem to be enough.
What could the answer be?

.
Then it struck me. Why ask?
When you simply just have to be thankful.
Thankful for the new chances unfolding, for the blank pages that are yours to write on. Fresh start and a clean-slate to set the right intentions and not just mundane resolutions.
"It's a season of thanksgiving, not asking questions," I told myself.
