New York Terror Attack: Eight Killed in Manhattan in an 'Act of Terror'

"Our thoughts and prayers are with all those affected, '' Sanders said.New York, November 1: Eight Persons were killed in 'an act of terror' in the lower Manhattan in New York City on Tuesday. The attack took place when the suspect ploughed a truck on a pedestrian path. The police said the attacker showed a fake gun before he was taken into the custody. The New York Police Department (NYPD) said the truck also hit a school bus near the World Trade Centre.

NYPD in a tweet said, "At approximately 3:05 pm a 29-year-old male drove a rented Home Depot truck onto the bike/pedestrian path at West St/Houston St driving south. The truck drove south on the path striking multiple people. 8 people were killed, 11 have serious but non-life threatening injuries.

It added, "While driving south on the path the truck collided with a school bus at West St & Chambers St. After colliding with the school bus the man exited holding two firearms. An officer assigned to the area fired, striking him in the stomach.

The police arrested the person behind the attack. It said, "The driver of the truck, a male 29-years-old, was taken into custody. A paintball gun and pellet gun were recovered from the scene.

In a statement, New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio's office informed, "This horrible tragedy on the West Side is, based on the information we have at this moment, an act of terror, and a particularly cowardly act of terror aimed at innocent civilians going about their lives. At this moment we know of eight innocent people who have lost their lives and over a dozen more who are injured.

The statement added, "There will be extensive additional employments of NYPD officers this evening and throughout the days ahead.
