In 2015, Tom Brady had the best season of his career. Most may say 2007 would be the best, others might say 2010 or 2011. But to me it was this last season. Based on a combination of the opponents he played and beat, the team he had to work with, and his overall play, last year has to be considered his best season.
Tom Brady went 4 straight games at the start of the season without an interception. And the first pick he threw, against the Indianapolis Colts, was completely Julian Edelman’s fault. As the season went on, the Patriots continued to rack up wins with Brady stellar play. Every week, some fools would predict that the Patriots would lose. First it was the Bills that were going to knock them off. Then the Jets. Then the Dolphins. Then the Giants. Then the Bills again. Brady just continued his excellent play and racked up W after W. At one point Brady was leading the QB’s in every passing category and was on pace to shatter his 2007 record setting year. But NE was one of the most injured teams in the NFL and that started to catch up to them. Brady went through a three game stretch against tough defensive lines, Bills, Broncos, Eagles, and struggled. He threw three of his seven interceptions for the year against two of those teams, two against the Eagles, one versus the Bills. He didn't complete 60% of his passes in any of those games. However, in the toughest game of the year, going to Denver, Brady did his best. His comp % wasn't great, but he did his best, throwing three touchdowns, no interceptions, and 280 yards in the snow. Remember this defense held Aaron Rodgers to only 77 pass yards!! The Broncos were the victors, but it wasn’t Brady’s fault by any means. He put points on the board and forced the game into overtime. In the Patriots first playoff game, he tore up the hottest team coming into the playoffs at the time and another great defense. Brady went 28-42, 302 yards, and 2 tds with a Pats win.
The AFC Championship game was again, the most difficult game for Brady. Brady couldn’t get away from the pass rush. Brady had someone in his face soon as he hiked the ball almost every time. He was hit more then ten times, and forced into throwing two interceptions. But again, he came in clutch, scoring a touchdown at the end, and if Gostowski hits that point after kick at the beginning of the game, this game goes into overtime.
The Patriots wideouts led the league in drops according to PFF. Brady was sacked at least twice every game during the regular season except for when they played the Redskins and the Bills. Brady showed better movement, by throwing on the run and becoming more mobile in the pocket. Brady had to adapt to that awful offensive line.
39 total touchdowns. 4,770 yards. 64.4 completion %. 36 passing touchdowns to 7 interceptions. Doing all of that while losing his number 1 WR for 7 games losing his second string for 2 games and his third string wr for the season and losing his starting RB, members from his o-line, and various defensive losses during year. I think it's clear that Tom Brady, at 38 years old, had the best season of his career.
