Cowgirls make prepare for rodeo

Samantha Kerns couldn't have asked for a better start to the Junior National Finals Rodeo.Flaharty also leads the typical with a two-run time of 27.837, followed by Jordan Morman from Gillette, Wyoming, with a 27.862. I missed three matches and my coach wasn't overly happy about that," Kerns said with a grin, but this really is a once in a lifetime chance and I wasn't going to miss this

She is only my barrel horse this week. Since Kerns won the qualifier in September, she has had a busy NFR schedule, even though Tripps Farewell RB wasn't always with her. The North Powder, Oregon, cowgirl won the first round of Senior Barrel Racing on Tuesday morning using a 13.903-second run in the Wrangler Rodeo Arena.

She slipped a bit in Thursday's second round, finishing with a time of 14.072 moments, but her two-run time of 27.975 moments puts her sixth at the typical entering Saturday's final round. My mare completed the first barrel much tougher in my first conduct than she did today," Kerns said. And today I had any trouble getting her over for the second barrel and then she did not complete it hard so we popped off going to the third, which cost us a small moment." It was somewhat difficult not riding my horse, but she knows her job and that I know how to ride her."

It wasn't exactly the run I desired," Kerns said of her next run, but it brought me back. And I qualified for the finals so I am fairly pleased with that." Kerns said everything was clicking Tripps Farewell RB on Tuesday's run, between her and her horse. Kerns can return to her love -- basketball when the Junior NFR finishes. Her Powder Valley High School team is now unbeaten without Kerns, even at 3-0. I qualified in Moses Lake (Oregon) and I won the qualifier there by nearly a half a second," Kerns said. I was pleased with this so I just wanted to carry that over to here."

Kerns understands she has some opportunity to make up in the brief go, but the high school senior also knows her and Tripps Farewell RB have what it takes to put together another fast run. Kerns has faith in her horse. We had the mare and the stud therefore she was raised by us. I started riding her my year and we left it that year. Since that time she's qualified me for the national high school finals and retreats.

I had two high school rodeos in the autumn and then my mother took down my horses to Arizona at the beginning of November" Kerns said. I flew down for Thanksgiving and rode my horses and then we drove back up. Kelsey Caldwell out of Oakdale, California, the second of this 58 barrel racers who conducted the cloverleaf Thursday, won the next round having a 13.680-second run. Emma Smith in Pleasanton, Texas, was second in 13.708, with Rio Flaharty in El Dorado, Kansas, third in 13.818.
