I am sorry but the current NHL Standings point system is broken. When A team that has 51-23-7 record and beats a team that is 54-23-4 for the season best record. There is something wrong with this picture. The problem the OT loss getting a full point. That means that a team with a LOSING record gets more points than the team with the actual winning record.. This does not fly in any other sport that I know of.. Losing is losing. However, I have found a solution to balance the OT losers participation point, while allowing a WIN to account for more.
Wins need to be worth 3 points
Loses are still 0
and OT loss participation points need to be worth .5.
If they switched to this method, and run it yourself, the standings would look different than now, but would be correct favoring teams that actually WIN their games.
What are you thoughts.
