Bruins Starting Goalie Rask posts Shutout in First Start post Injury
The Bruins reversed their Second Period Woes to Win
The lone goal of the game was scored late in the second Period when Bruins fourth liner Tim Schaller (pictured above) fired a shot on net from the corner boards in the offensive zone. Normally, this is a very easy save, however it caught G Jimmy Howard out of position and snuck in. This served as the lone goal of the game and serves as a reminder that any shot on net, is a good shot on net. I often wonder why the pros don't fire the puck on net more. Well this time it worked and other than that one mistake Red Wings G Jimmy Howard saved 35 other shots. However, G Jimmy Howard's performance was outdone by his opponent on the other end of the ice.
Rask Returns and Posts a Shutout
Rask is back after officially missing a few games with what is described as:
General Soreness, lower body injury
Which could mean he had "Vaginitis", a disease that some say has spread throughout society, a general wussification of our world, normally this is reserved for baseball or soccer players. However, now that Rask has healed from his "Vaginitis", he is completely healthy. He came back and showed no signs of "soreness" lolz, and posted a 24 save shutout. He made a lot of really excellent saves, especially late in the game to seal the victory. The Bruins need Rask to start because they are 0-4 without Rask and 4-0 with Rask. I think having the starting goalie behind them, really helps the weak Bruins blue line play a little more confidently, which helps. It also helps the weak blue line that every time they made a mistake Rask was their to shut down the scoring opportunity.
Red Wings Speed and Passing Threatened the Bruins All Night
The Red Wings are and always have been one of the best passing teams in the league. One breakout at about 12:32 in the First Period lead to a series of about five straight one touch passes and set up F Dylan Larkin, who came flying through the neutral zone and got one of the Red Wings better scoring opportunities of the night. All evening long the speed of Larkin and the Red Wings passing game made the Bruins seem slow footed. The Bruins were only able to keep the Red Wings off the board because they won the majority of the puck battles and played solid positional ice hockey. Making the speedier Red Wings have to go through layers of forwards and defense man. Typical Julien trap hockey, and a low scoring game.
David Krecji is Officially Back from Ghost Town USA
Krecji had played the first 6 games like an old women with a broken hip. Game 7 I noticed a big jump in his step and he got an assist in the game and played much better. Last night against Detroit, he was back to form. He looked like he had his speed and agility back up to at least 90% or so, and his hands were 100% back or close to it. He made a lot of really nice plays in transition and set up a few players for what should have been goals. Krecji also won the majority of the face-offs and increased his one ice time. If you are looking for a buy low fantasy hockey player, I would try to trade for Krecji. Krecji didn't record a point in last night's game, however if you watched the game he made a lot of really good plays and could have easily had a one or two assists. The rookie Winger Czarnik also played a really solid game at wing on the Krecji line.
Conclusion for Bruin's Fans
Bruin's have historically played the Red Wings tough, even when they had bad teams. This win, just goes to show how badly they need Rask in net, and how their win loss record is going to rely on the play of the net minders, especially Tuuka. When you have a weak blue line defensively you need really solid play from the goalie to win games. Though Rask has played very well this season, how long will that last? What will happen if he has a cold streak? The answers are not good, so the Bruins are now .500 and will likely be a .500 time for the majority of the season. Unless Rask has an outstanding year, and the Bruins make a big trade at the deadline. The Bruins team who had the most players at the World Cup, will miss the playoffs due to lack of talent on the roster. For now, let's enjoy the win.
Up Next for the 4-4 Bruins is the 3-4-1 Florida Panthers. Can you say LUONGO!
