Still in the spirit of Nigeria's Independence
My entry: Chant
See a Niger born out of Area
Once upon a year christened by Shaw Flora
Protectorates shake hands in joyful hysteria,
to the birth of a country, NIGERIA.
See a land as big as an elephant
Blessed as the virgin, unbeknownst to its six blind occupants
One seeks cessation, others resolution.
Twenty-Fifteen, the gloomy prediction,
yet, the land laughs with hope coming to fruition.
“See a country there was”
Said the sage in the days of yore
So long had he gone, mind was young,
the words pierce deep still, in us.
See a country, half a century sum septet
By standard, three years to retirement
Yet dancing to the python’s tune
Like an adult who un-leaves toddlerhood
See a mother’s un-hesitating stance
See her brazen fight against the drunken master
See the fight that birthed her six children
See the six children chanting “one nation”
See the unity despite the differences
See the differences turned strength
See the strength of Africa's giant
See the giant called NIGERIA
My entry for @prechi independence day contest.
