Sometimes in Nigeria you are walking down this stretch of road and just from the middle of nowhere you see approaching a herd of cattle . Many times, whoever is driving them is nowhere in sight or in a case where he is, he doing his own thing .
At that material moment you have two decisions to make:
Whether to play the smart scared cat , turn around nicely and gently and find you another route.
Or
Brave the odds, play Mister toughy and march on ahead like a soldier, pretend not to care, when in fact the mere fact that by coincidence one of these cattle could lose a nerve or two and in a moment's blinks gore you with those terrible horns and you'd be a goner, right there and then - in spite of this knee-knocking thought which also gives you a momentary skin dilation due to the increasing pulse and blood pressure, you cross to the other side just when you are about meeting this herd.
Once they are some distance behind you, you feel this much relieved knowing it took grace for you not to pee your pants.
Elsewhere, the only time people see these domestic animals is when they visit farms for entertainment or academic purposes. Some may even go their whole lives without seeing one - I don't know
Down here, we live with them, smell them and their poop as well.
