A BRIEF HISTORY OF NIGERIA

The history of Nigeria can be traced to prehistoric settlers living in the area as early as 11000 BC. Numerous ancient African civilizations settled in the region that is today Nigeria, such as the Benin Empire, the Kingdom of Nri and the Oyo Empire.
Islam reached Nigeria through the Hausa States during the 11th century, while Christianity came to Nigeria in the 15th century through Augustinian and Capuchin monks from Portugal. The Songhai Empire also occupied part of the region. Lagos was invaded by British forces in 1851 and formally annexed in 1861. Nigeria became a British protectorate in 1901. Colonization lasted until 1960, when an independence movement succeeded in gaining Nigeria its independence.
Nigeria first became a republic in 1963, but succumbed to military rule three years later after a
bloody coup d'état . A separatist movement later formed the Republic of Biafra in 1967, leading to the three-year Nigerian Civil War. Nigeria became a
republic once again after a new constitution was written in 1979. However, the republic was short-lived, when the military seized power again four years later. A new republic was planned to established in August 1993, but was dissolved once again by General Sani Abacha three months later. Abacha died in 1998 and a fourth republic was later established the following year, which ended three decades of intermittent military rule. We have over 250 other ethnic group in Nigeria which co-exist together to make it a great and wonderful nation. Nigeria got her independent in 1960 and became a republic in 1963. The nation with a population of about 150 million people as at the last census which was carried out, making the nation the most populated black race on earth with great and wonderful achievement.

RELIGION IN NIGERIA

We have three religion in Nigeria but two of it has a great deal on the people. Most people changing from one religion to another on a daily bases so we can not say that this is the major religion.

CURRENCY

Here in Nigerian the (#) sign is the symbol for our currency. The currency are of different denomination. Ranging from #5,#10,#20,#50,#100,#200,#500 and #1000 which is the highest denomination we have here in Nigeria with the faces of our great hero's who have fought for the freedom of this great nation. The story of my dear country is similar to that of the chidren of isreal and the egyptians. Our leaders where slaves and sold to europe as slave. Thanks to some historical cenotaph and monument which has stand to cover the space of time and evidence to young generation.

MAJOR RIVERS

The great and most recognise river in Nigeria is the river Niger and river benue, which met in lokoja that gave it the slogan which is the "confluence state". The world Nigeria was also derived from that river by the wife of lord lugard flora lugard. One of the govern that rule the country as at then before the independent he also discover the mountain party in lokoja kogi state. The name Nigeria was derived from the two great river which gave it then Niger - Area. There are also great sea,ocean river etc but this particular one has a great significant to the country as a whole.

COAT OF ARM

The Nigeria coat of arm has a great meaning the Eagle stands for strength, the two horse by the two side stand for dignity,the black Y line stands for the two rivers,the flowers stands for good land for agriculture.

MINERALS RESOURCES

The nation is bless with many mineral resource to make life better and sweet. But the question is that are they utilize well. Among them is

Diamond

Sliver etc

Nigeria is bless with great mountian and a good geographical area for dwelling and it serve as abide or citadel for many both home and abroade.

EARLY DEMOCRACY

After the military rule and the government of the people by the people and for the people came into power in year MAY 29 1999. Which is always observe as a democracy Day.
