Lend a Helping hand today!

A few days ago I got out of a cab and was struggling to move my load where I could board another cab. The load was obviously beyond my physical strength and I must have cut a pitiful figure!.

A young man who must have noticed my difficulty came and offered to help me carry it.
That act of kindness preoccupied my mind for rest of that day. Reflecting on that selfless act I realised how a little gesture such as helping people with even the most basic things of life could have a profound effect on them.

A good morning, a smile, a firm hand shake,a hug, a gentle word, offering to pay someone's transport fare, compliment on a person's physical appearance etc may seem inconsequential, but when done in the right way and with a good intension, leaves a lasting impression on the person.

Come to think of it, what is the purpose of our existence if not to be there for each other; this truth is codified in Jesus' words when he said" love your neighbour as you love yourself".

We are only in this world for a short while. I read a piece somewhere titled " do you think about your mortality?" it said

"The days may seem long, but life itself is rather short. As Bill Nye the Science Guy explains, an average human life will span about 30,000 days. That may seem long, but consider that the typical professional football stadium holds twice as many seats. If you sat in a new seat each day of your life, you would not visit even half of the seats in the sport stadium. In order to make the most of our lives, we would do well to meditate on our own mortality as a way to understand just how precious and limited our existence is"

What better way is there to live such a short life other than by doing acts of kindness no matter how little? Your next act of kindness to someone might just be what will make their day, who knows? Even their lives!
