A big part of university life is going out and socials. For sports a good social can make or break a club. A lot of people think when joining a club at university like football, rugby or hockey that the sport and the games are the most important thing. However this couldn't be further from the truth. In order to attract players and run a club successfully by having members attend training sessions and matches the social side must be upheld.
The more members you bring to clubs and bars, the more rewards and money you will receive in the form of sponsorships. Hockey at University of Leeds received £10,000 from TigerTiger. Therefore it is essential that any new members/freshers are included in the socials because they are the future of the club and need to uphold 'the legacy.
