Industriousness (Nine Noble Virtues)

Welcome back to the latest installment of my Nine Noble Virtues here on the Steemit Blockchain.

Today, I will be talking about the eighth Noble Virtue of “Industriousness”.

The time of year has arrived, for us on the Northern Hemisphere, for a time of action. Spring has sprung, as they say, and nature is giving forth new life all around us. The harsh winter has subsided and we are reminded of the fruitful fertility that Mother Nature has offered for us. It is also the time of the year where we can set goals for ourselves and use the renewing energy of nature, to focus on our own tasks of creation and accomplishment.

Sometimes, when we feel stuck or unable to obtain our goals, the simplest way to success is to accomplish anything (even if that something is something small). The minor victories in our lives can set forth in motion achievement of greater things. Small tasks such as making the bed in the morning, going for a walk, writing a paragraph about a dream you had, or de-cluttering a room in your house, will help you to get “unstuck”.

This is where being industrial in our everyday lives can lead to larger, greater, and honorable successes that we can be proud of.

For those who follow their Native European traditions Easter, or Ēostre, is also the time of Sigrblót, otherwise known as victory sacrifice. This is a reminder for us to obtain victory during this time of year in order to make the coming fall and winter a little more bearable. We are proud of victory and use it as a way to honor ourselves and to honor our ancestors. When we are stagnant we lack industriousness, therefore, we lack the key to success. Hard work and determination will carry you to your ultimate goal, or to your desired victory.

We must “sacrifice” time, money, or energy in order to achieve victory. That is the essence of Sigrblót. When we are conscious of our sacrifice, and dedicate it to ourselves or to our ancestors, it becomes much more meaningful when victory is obtained; perhaps it becomes easier to obtain it as well.

As you celebrate the mainstream holiday “Easter” don’t think about a foreign god whose followers conquered and defeated your ancestors. I challenge you to ask yourself what your native ancestors practiced and why? As you participate in the ancient traditions of celebrating fertility and victory, strengthen your children by teaching them the glory of victory and the benefit of hard work.

Make victory for yourself. Don’t thank (or beg) a higher power for victory, honor that higher power by standing on your own with the strength that you made for yourself and was shown to you by your ancestors.

Be proud of your victories this spring, set intentions on achieving these victories, and honor yourself by being a little more industrious today, for the future ahead.
