Vijftien jaar geleden hebben wij voor ons huis twee stekken van de Callistemon geplant. In Nederland is deze boom ook wel bekend onder de naam Rode Lampenpoetser. Ze waren ongeveer anderhalve meter hoog en stelden niet veel voor. Snel kwam daarin verandering en ze zijn door de jaren heen uitgegroeid tot twee respectabele bomen die twee keer per jaar een pracht aan rode bloemen voortbrengen. Een paradijs voor kolibries die je van bloem naar bloem ziet springen.
