Fleshmarket Close is one of the many old closes in the city of Edinburgh in Scotland. It refers to a slaughterhouse at the north end of the close where animals were killed and cut. The meat of these animals was taken to High Street where it was sold on the market.
Fleshmarket Close is also the name of a crime novel by the famous Scottish crimewriter Ian Rankin. It is an installment in the series about inspector John Rebus. In the close a skeleton is being dugged up and it is the beginning of a very good thriller.
