What should you use? A low code or no code platform?
This is a question that I get weekly from people that are creating their own web apps.
So, for all of you that have this same question, this article will help you a clear answer.
First of all, let's see what is a low code platform
Basically, a low code platform is a platform in which you use graphics, and not or very few code.
This is what non-developers, people like me and you, use to create web applications like:
- Bar code registration
- Bills of materials
- Area Code to TimeZone mapping
- Clickable map
- Custom registration
- Finding duplicate entries
- Apartment rentals
- millions of others - there is no limit with what you can do with the right platform.
Using graphics and a mouse, anybody can create the web apps that some times ago were built just by developers and big teams.
So, all by yourself, you can do whatever web app you need.
Now, let's see what is a no-code platform
You might expect me to start with "as the name says", but this is not the case.
This time only.
No-code platform should mean that the platform will use 0 code but this might not be actually correct in most cases.
Most times, the no-code term was invented by marketers and is exactly as the low-code term.
Probably at some point the 2 terms will be different and no code platform will really be no code but at the time of writing this article, this is not the case.
So, the conclusion is that low code and no code platforms are actually the very same thing, and people are using the terms interchangeably.
Why use a low-code/no-code platform?
Even developers that know perfectly how to code are using such platforms for many of their projects.
Why?
Because they save lots of time, and as the world says, time is money.
More time means more projects with translates into more projects.
And the rest of people that are not developers, they use this platform (including me) because it offers me the opportunity to add all kind of web apps to my website and my business.
When people see such advanced, good looking, and perfectly working web apps they ask me what agency or team of developers crafted them.
And I say that I was the single guy working on them and that it was my first time building such web apps as I don't have any knowledge in this field.
This is the power of low-code / no code platform and you can learn more about it here.
Bonus - why people invented the term no-code platform?
Marketers and people look every moment for solutions to differentiate their products and services.
Imagine how cool it was for the first "no code" platforms when they arrived.
People thought these platforms are really no code but they were actually low code platforms.
It is true that there are some really no code platforms but they are very rare.
For me and for you too a no code platform should really be no code, no low code.
So, if you want a 100% no-code platform, carefully check if it is as such.
And the last tip, don't run away from low code platforms, they are actually very easy to use.
Conclusion
So now it should be more than clear what should you use - a low code or a no code platform.
Both will help you create the web apps that you want.
And have in mind that these low-code / no-code platforms come with tons of templates and examples that you can use for your very own projects.
