#NoDAPL the Lack of Respect for America Indian Promises

in nodapl •  8 years ago

In 1988 Congress recognized American Indian tribes for contributing to the creation United States of America government and also to respect the relationships between them and their treaties.

A group of native tribes called the Iroquois help the forefathers create what we now know today is the United States of America. However, over many centuries the United States has made treaties and then gone against them almost immediately after making them.

Today, unfortunately, we still see abuse of American Indians happening. In spite of what the Congress ruled themselves saying that they would respect.

The #NoDAPL movement against the Dakota Access Pipeline has become the front lines of American Indian abuse today. The United States has decided not to respect the Sioux Indians failing to consult them about a pipeline being installed extremely close by their reservation. Treaty lines from the 1851 Treaty of Fort Laramie extends into the area of the pipeline's construction. The Sioux, indigenous peoples, and non-indigenous alike people are upset because they say that the grounds are sacred having significant meaning to the Sioux people as well as claiming the construction is destroying burial sites. On top of that the pipeline goes underneath vital drinking water sources.

If it was not for the Iroquois Confederacy we may not be the country we are today. Having achieved so many great things in the eyes of the world we owe it to our American Indian brothers and sisters grandfathers and grandmothers to respect them.

R.I.P.A.C. stands in solidarity with the movement to stop the Dakota Access Pipeline. On top of that R.I.P.A.C. stands with the recognition of Congress to recognize the American Indian’s contributions to the framework of United States of America as well as their so claimed commitment to show and give respect to them. Through the ballot initiative processes and through our own internal organization workings R.I.P.A.C. would like to push to create a sacred participatory democracy similar to the Iroquois to represent our roots of where we've actually come from.
