- Berlin: The beauty queen
Directly in front of the Brandenburg Gate, on the Pariser Platz, sparkles perhaps the most beautiful public Christmas tree in Germany. The huge fir was a gift from Berlin's Norwegian twin town Drøbak since German reunification - until the Norwegians were over-priced in 2014. The tree 2017 comes from Thuringia and shines this year in the sea of lights from 30,000 lamps, decorated by about 1000 Christmas tree balls and crowned by a likewise shining star at its head.
- Rio de Janeiro: The Floating
At the beginning of the Advent season, according to the Guinness Book of World Records, the world's largest floating Christmas tree has its glamorous appearance. The 542-tonne and 85-meter-high steel structure is illuminated every night by 3.3 million incandescent lamps with changing light motifs. The opening is always staged as a pyrotechnic music spectacle.
