Nomad List turns 5.0 today from the awesome @levelsio — I’d love to see some steem/smt/steem-engine integration or similar app!

Why re-invent the wheel right? Pieter has been working on this website for the last five years and I’ve watched it iterate and change rapidly, he’s constantly tinkering with the latest and greatest way of presenting useful data for digital workers and digital nomads — it’s grown to an incredible site generating him lots of monthly income and he LOVES to work on it.

He’s an inspiration for many.

This little video he’s done is SO well done because it not only verifies the thinking of the futurist involved it firmly places Pieter as someone who wanted change in his own nomadic life, was frustrated and just went ahead and built it out anyway, with I believe little skills to start with — he’s a true maker story and is one of many reasons why he is so successful I believe today.

Version 5.0 brings about a whole bunch of new features to the mix. ..

Just a few updates. ..

  • Nomad List now has over 1,000,000 data points for almost every major town and city in the world with a significant population. That’s data that ranges from climate throughout the year, to gender equality, to the average income of people living in different cities
  • Many people are moving out of the big cities to places more far out, to get more affordable living, while working remotely for companies in big cities. With fast internet, that’s now possible. That’s why I’ve added hundreds of smaller towns in North America for you to explore
  • There’s now 300,000 places to work (like cafes and coworkings) indexed in the site in partnership with Foursquare, Coworker.com and Workfrom.co. I use language matching to figure out if a cafe is suitable for working (like power outlets, fast wifi etc.)

there is a lot lot more but you should check out the source link above to see it all (watch the video too if you didn’t already) but the one that really struck me was this one. ..

  • after visiting cities people are now asked to review them. Reviews are fully anonymous, so this give you an honest perspective on the city. Pure data gives you only a limited idea of how a city can be, whereas someone writing about a city can give you a better picture

BOOM!

This for me is a perfect case study for integration between two of my favourite things — the idea of SMT’s (the original vision) of embedding the commenting element as a steem module, to expose steem and the voting, up and down and potential to earn steem/crypto currency for engagement

. .. or even reviewhunt, imagine if you had a bunch of location specific hunters that could you geo tagged, relevant up to date information for an area that they might be in, those elements could run over a period of time populating the posts where reviews are needed.

I guess the closest dapp integration litmus test right now would be something like https://tasteem.io because that’s actively running contests and having steemians review food places and getting incentivised by the chain to do so, those could be integrated alongside the content on nomad list to real up to date effect — the cross overs for me are stunning.

I’ve love nothing more to see nomad list on the https://steemapps.com chart each day exposing steemians to nomad list and vs versa. I’d say a lot of the steemians are either on the move or in some kind of life transition anyway so it’s a perfect connecting of the dots! — imagine all those nomads pushing @actifit data too :)

Just the idea also of @roelandp being able to build out some kind of event training kit material, maybe a udemy/skillshare course in how to organise a big event in different countries could open up the door to having hundreds of activated co-working spaces globally to combine the worlds of the digital nomads and the steem blockchain crypto fans together.

Now THAT would be something!
