Steemit First - Almost Too Embarrassed To Post!

But that's the point really. It's a drawing contest set by @jacinta.sevilla for the non-artist.

These are the Rules:

In order to participate you must:

Must have absolutely no experience in drawing
Drawing is a weakness to you
Cannot draw to "save your life" 😹
Willing to draw
commit to the challenge

Well I do have experience, as I was forced to draw at school but I've never done it again. I've had no formal instruction in it nor any desire to do it because I'm so rubbish at it.

But I was willing to commit to the challenge just to see if I could make it fun. Hmmm.

Well it was and it wasn't.

Part 1 was a warm up exercise, filling in squares with lines.

This bit I did enjoy. It was pretty easy because we were given the patterns and told to put them in boxes so I just played around and found it very relaxing.

I like what I ended up with.

I left one area blank because I'm planning on turning it into a birthday card and adding some red in there.

Part 2 was another warm up exercise. This time shapes and shading.

This I found a little harder because as soon as I heard the word "shading" my mind ran off with the idea that this was "proper" shading and something that I needed to get right as in adding perspective to the shapes.

I actually put it off for a couple of days but then when I came back and saw the example I realised that it was actually very similar to the first exercise and was really just about putting lines into shapes. Not too hard then.

Part 3 - Application - create a work of art applying task 1 and 2

Now this is where it got really tricky.

"Work of art" and "drawing" are 2 different things to me.

What to do? I could stay in my comfort zone and do a work of art that was pattern based. That I would enjoy. Or I could attempt to do a drawing, which, is after all what the contest was about, and face my rubbishness. 😁

I decided to challenge myself and stick with drawing but what on earth could I draw?

I couldn't come up with anything for a couple of days so in the end I decided to look at the shapes we'd been given, see what they reminded me of in real life and then use them to draw a picture based on that.

I'm tempted not to actually post the picture and pretend I forgot it. So strong is the voice in my head that tells me what "proper" drawing is and what a picture of houses and trees should look like. But after all this effort I'm not going to shy away now. I'll post it quickly and then I'm out of here!

I think it's really good. Something about that raw style. Kinda reminds me of my grandmas old art. Thanks for sharing!

You're so nice for commenting on this post. For that, I gave you a vote! I just ask for a Follow in return!

Thank you @derekrichardson!

No need for embarrassment @gillianpearce you've done a great job 👍thanks for sharing

You're very kind @missysheshe! 😁 Thank you!

Probably still better than me.

What's worse is that my brother (@mattphilleo) is a master artist. He sucked all the art skills from me when we were children, I swear.

You'd have to be really rubbish for that to be better than you @Negativer. 😁 But I don't mind. I'm better with patterns and colour and composition. Basically when something doesn't actually have to look like something else!

My brother sucked all the business skills from me so I feel your pain!

Omy haha your brother is so pro in art!!!! I look up to him! I bet you can draw !! Try it.
Contest is still open 🎨☝️☀️✨

OMG I'm following your bro. Indeed he is a master artist in every sense. But my sis and I always say that everybody can draw. You just have to start!

good job (y)

Thank you!

Thank you!. I like my patterns too @jacinta.sevilla. Although you made it very easy by giving us the lines. It's the drawing that's the big challenge! 😁
