A wood stork

in nonfiction •  6 years ago

A couple of days ago I was returning from the pool in our community to my house and simply by inertia looked over our lake. As I browsed over the lake with my eyes, I saw the usual picture. White ibises took their positions by the edge of the water. I was already about to pass by, as my eyes caught a glimpse of a pair of ibises that were taller than the rest, had gray heads and necks and a different beak.

“Hmm…” I told to myself, “this must be some entirely different bird!”

It looked like either a crane or a stork. I made several photos, attempting to get closer and closer. Until finally, the birds got tired of my annoyance, they flapped their wings and flew to the other side of the lake. There!

Preoccupied with the thoughts of what kind of birds they were, I asked a friend zoologist. She immediately identified the birds as Wood stork.
