Only 36% of Americans Know Where North Korea Is On A Map!!....Really??!!

A recent survey conducted by the New York Times has apparently found that almost two thirds of Americans can't pinpoint North Korea on a map! Of the 1,746 American adults who were asked to identify where North Korea is situated, only 36% were able to correctly pinpoint it.

With information just a mouse click away, can it really be true that so many Americans are ignorant of the world outside? ....Or is just another example of fake news being used to pad out the content of the failing media?

Having met many Americans who have traveled over to the UK and Europe, I find it very hard to believe. However, having never made the trip across the pond I have no way of knowing for sure....

I wonder how many would be able to write down all the states of America. With all the information present at a click, we are becoming oblivious to what's our own little community we interact with online.

I've tried playing that game before....bugs the sh*t out of me when I'm just missing one!!

Geography is not one of my strong points. It's embarrassing how little I know on this topic, but lets' face it: schools just don't teach this stuff. I get pissed off when I realize how badly I've been screwed by the government run school system. A quick google search shows that there are just under 200 countries. How many do I know about? Probably a handful.

I think it's likely a post code (ZIP Code) lottery. Depending on where you live will determine where you end up. To be fair, my daughter who's only 5 is light year's a head of where I was at her age. But she goes to a faith school where as I just attended a bog standard one.

Re geography, might it be that US citizens tend not to travel abroad? I live in UK which isn't very big and so become more aware of other countries and their locations. The US is frickin massive and contains pretty much all you need (subtropical, desert, grassland, Mountains et etc)
