I´m going VEGAN (almost) -- DAY 3 -- (A Steemit experiment)

in norway •  7 years ago

Hi all!

Again, I just need to say thank you so much to everyone getting involved in my new adventure towards a meatless new life!
I truly appreciate you taking the time to comment and share!
And the crazy thing is that it actually helps me focus.

SO THANK YOU!

DAY 3 of my adventure is over and this is how it went:

Did I manage to not eat any meat or fish? -- YES!

WHAT DID I EAT?:
• Breakfast: Brown bread with tomato hummus and fresh veggies
• Lunch: Spicy BBQ veggie burger, fries and alioli
• Nuts and dried berries snack
• Dinner: Yesterday I said I´d try some veggies low and slow on the smoker. Unfortunately I didn’t have as much time today as I hoped, but nevertheless the smoker was used. But it was more grilling than smoking I suppose. This is what I made: burnt cabbage, a ratatouille-ish dish, veggie balls with cheese and chili (bought in the store), and mashed topinambour and cauliflower. My kids hated it of course.. So had to make them some other stuff. :)

IF YOU HAVE ANY SUGGETIONS TO VEGGIE/VEGAN DISHES THAT THE KIDS MIGHT LOVE – PLEASE SHARE YOUR MAGIC IN A COMMENT!

• Dessert: grilled fennel, blueberries and physalis with a bit of maple syrup, lime juice and zest.

This turned out super tasty! I had hoped to have it a bit longer and then give it a high heat kick in the end, but didnt have the time. Think it would have been even better though.

• Supper: Smoothie with oatmeal, mango, avocado, frozen crowberries, orange juice, frozen bananas and lime juice

This one the kids loved! ;)

HOW DO I FEEL?:
The heart burn I had all day yesterday is more or less gone. Sweet!
The cravings haven’t been too bad, but I must admit I´ve thought about meat more than once today… Other than that I feel quite normal!

Tomorrow afternoon we´re going to a birthday party and will eat dinner there.

So now the question is: do I tell the host in advance that I only eat plant based food? Should I expect them to prepare something just for me? I know I´ll be the only one not eating meat. Or should I eat before I come and maybe just put some veggies on the plate? Or should I bring my own food?

What do you guys think?

Also, there´ll be cakes, snacks and all that good stuff.. Let´s see if I can keep away from that as well (which is my bonus goal)..

Alright! Let´s see what tomorrow brings!

Sharing your experience on living a plant based lifestyle will be of great value to me!

Until tomorrow - Peace, Peter

Hi Peter, congratulations on your decision to go vegan, it will be one of the best decisions of your life (and the animals' lives haha). I've been vegan for a couple of years so if you need any advice on nutrition, plant-based fitness, meal ideas, ethics etc let me know and I'll help out. I'll be following your progress :)

Thanks a lot @kernowek!
And welcome to Steemit!

I'll be following you as well and reach out when I need advice! :) Also feel free to comment on my progress and the questions I have in my posts!

Peace, Peter

Congrats again my friend to keep it going! Now after these 3 days, all will go on smoothly now on! The beginning is the hardest part!
Your dessert is really very creative man, fennel, blueberries and physalis pairing is just awesome and can feature in any star michelin restaurant actually! Wow!
Good luck for the birthday party though!
Cheers
@progressivechef

Wow, thanks soo much for that comment!
I would have liked to have a bit more lime next time and also I think a sprinkle of liquorice before serving might have given it an even better final result :)

Again, thank you for following me on this. Let´s see if it´s all a dance on roses from now on. I´m having a feeling the birthday party will have many temptations... ;)

I'll wait and see what really happen during that Birthday party! It would be very interesting i feel so!

Congrats man! That fennel looked damn good, as did the smoothie. Fuck it, it all looked good! Nice work!

My family is heading out this weekend with my in-laws and we asked ourselves the same thing...do we tell them not to bring meat for us? Do we bring our own food? Still haven't quite decided yet but it is quite the quandary.

Thanks a lot man!

As time goes most family and friends will know that I dont eat meat and we´ll talk about it, but in the beginning it´s going to be interesting to see how things will work out.
One thing is for sure: most of my friends and family will be shocked.. :)

ehhh, that just looks amazing! Did you make up the blueberry/fennel combo yourself?

Thanks! Was really good actually!
Yes, I made that up. I love using whatever I have available at home, trying new stuff.
And that´s actually usually how I cook. Very seldom do I use recipes.
Sometimes it doesnt turn out too good, but since I´ve been cooking like this for many years I´ve learned so much by simply tasting and experimenting.
Every now and then I come up with something epic, and that´s a great feeling! :)
