Kings Of Convenience

Kings of Convenience is a folk pop pop consisting of Erlend Øye and Eirik Glambek Bøe from Bergen.

History

Øye and Bøe were both born in 1975 and have known each other since they participated in a geographic competition when they were only 10 years old. When they were 16, they played together in the Forest Forest together with two other friends, and released an EP, Tom Time Tale, before the group was dissolved. Later they formed the two duo Kings of Convenience.

They signed in 1999 with the American label Kindercore Records, after attending European festivals that summer. They released the debut album Quiet Is The New Loud in 2001. The album was produced by Coldplay producer Ken Nelson. The album became very popular and received good reviews. Versus, an album with remixes of the songs from Quiet Is The New Loud, and came out shortly thereafter.

After the breakthrough year, much of the band was not heard. Øye released the solo material and the album Unrest when he lived in Berlin, while having a side project called The Whitest Boy Alive. It was not until 2004 that the sequel was released, Riot on an Empty Street. The music video of I'd Rather Dance With You, the second single from the album, toppled MTV's European list as the best music video in 2004, and won the 2005 Norwegian War prize for best video.

The third album, Declaration of Dependence, was released October 20, 2009.

In 2014, a book was published by Ørjan Nilsson, the cultural journalist, entitled Quiet Is The New Loud, which is about the Kings of Convenience album from 2001. Erlend and Eirik promoted the book with a tour in 2015 where they played all the songs from the debut album.
