I want to showcase where I work and what I do. You norwegians know what supermarket 'MENY' is, this will not be the most intresting thing for you guys but I still wanted to do this.
I am a retail bucher with a sertificate and this is where I spend some of my days! What I do throughout the day is quite variable, at this time of the year it's lamb and game meat people eat so most of the day usually goes to disjointing lamb. I can maybe record for a later post how I disjoint an animal later (if I remember). I also prepare dishes for the next days like make different stews, patties, different meat delicacy, making different types of salads like greek salad, pasta salads with smoked salmon ect. I also have some responsebillity for the bakery from time to time.
Here is an exemple of one meat delicay I usually make every thursday to sell in the weekends. Picture of a rib-eye steak filled with alot of chrushed garic then I bind it up with food strand then roll around in parsley.
Picture of our deli counter on Monday 18.09.17 around 2pm.
Quick story behind the Supermarket chain MENY.
MENY is a Norwegian supermarket concept in the grocery store. The chain is Norway's largest supermarket chain and has 198 stores, approximately 10,000 employees and traded for 18.2 billion in 2015. The chain is part of NorgesGruppen, one of Norway's largest companies and market leader in the grocery industry.
MENY has its origins in Vestfold and Telemark, with the merchant chains Oluf Lorentzen, established in 1869 and Jens Evensen in 1907. The chains were known for large abount of commodities, especially in finer colonial and fresh produce. The first MENY store opened in 1992 when the two chains joined the MENY name. When NorgesGruppen bought MENY in 2000, the MENY concept was relaunched.
By 2015, the Ultra and Centra (old HUGE supermarkets in Norway with roughly 30,000 different food and other articles) were redirected to MENY. Ultra and Centra has its background from CentraGruppen, founded by Ivar Kjell Eriksen in 1966 and sold to NorgesGruppen in 2000. Quality and service were central to CentraGruppen's business concept. In 2015, Ultra, former Centers Colosseum, was also converted to Jacobs at Majorstuen.
NorgesGruppen is part owner of the Danish company Dagrofa, and in May 2015 120 previously reopened Superbest and Eurospar stores in Denmark as MENY.
Five years or so since this picture was taken, this is at ULTRA, my former workplace where I worked for almoust 7 years. I was also apprentice for retail bucher 1,5 years before taking certificate of apprenticeship/journeyman.
Former logo of my workplace before it was changed into MENY and some other pictrures from when I worked there.
I know this is not the most exciting post! Enjoy!
