ANKARA NOTEBOOK
THINGS NEEDED
• Kariboard
• Textbook
• Ankara (1 yard)
• Ruler, tape rule and pencil
• Linen
• Hammer
• Rivet and rivet pin
• Foam
• Hole puncher
• Gum and gum brush
STEPS
• For the outer of the bag, Open your Kariboard and take your tape rule. Measure 61 for the whole length (flap 15cm, back 23cm, bottom 3cm and front 20cm) and 31.5 for the breath.
Take your ruler and connect the dots with your pencil.
• Use scissors to cut the draw line
• Fold the straight lines and see it take the shape of a book.
• For the inner, repeat the same but reduce each measurement by 1cm or 2cm as you choose. After drawing the lines, cut and fold to the shape of the book.
• For the outer, take a gum brush and apply gum all over the back then place on the foam properly.
.Cut away the excess and leave the foam covering the back of the outer.
• Now put the foam part on the back of your ankara material…let there be like 5cm extra at each side then apply gum to the sides of the outer Kariboard(where there is no foam)then gum the ankara sides.
• Do the same to the inner. Without using foam, apply gum to the inside of the inner and place on the linen after cutting 5cm extra to fold in. Let the gum dry a little before folding. Then cut your ankara, fold it into two and apply gum to the edges without reaching the top and gum to the side of the inner opened.
• Take your hole puncher and punch a hole inside your inner at the two sides. Then place your rivet, put in the chain and close it with your rivet pin. You can use the hammer to hit it in place.
• For the outer, take your hole puncher and punch a hoke at top in the middle where you will put in your closure, turn to the inside and use your hammer to hit it in place.
• Do the same for the inner with the outer part of the closure but make sure it is in the same place so it can conveniently hook. Don’t forget to use the hammer to hit the back of the hook in place.
• After that, apply gum all over the outside of the inner and little on the inside of the outer. Leave to dry a little. Then put the inner inside the outer, be careful and put them in a way they fit and stick together. Use the hammer to hit the sides to stay.
• Leave it to dry for a while.
• (Optional) You can apply a design in front either by hooking it or gumming it. For my purse, I applied little gum on the design and placed it in the middle.
